Programme Overview
With the abundant data and modern technology available today, there are rising expectations for non-analytics professionals to be proficient in data analysis to generate insights and improve decision making. Designed for non-analytics professionals, this foundational programme* will provide you with a good understanding of and appreciation for data analysis, and how it can be used for better decision-making.
Through practical hands-on exercises, analyse a given data set
and solve case studies using Microsoft Excel tools such as pivot tables and
pivot charts, and identify potential opportunities within your agency to apply
data analysis.
*This is a foundational programme that covers the whole process of data analytics using Excel, suitable for officers who wish to have an appreciation of data analytics.

Ng Jinsheng
Mr. Ng Jinsheng joined IBM SPSS in 2008 as an Executive in Training and Consulting after his graduation from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Degree in Statistics and Applied Probability. During his stay in IBM SPSS, he trained hundreds of participants from the public service and private sector in quantitative statistical modeling, big data analytics and data mining involving machine learning tools and applications in solving business problems. He also led consulting projects and worked with C-level executives in addressing pressing business issues during which he received numerous praises and testimonies. During his working with IBM SPSS, Mr. Ng Jinsheng completed his Master of Science in Knowledge Management [M.Sc(KM)] from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and graduated one as of the top in his cohort with a Dean’s List award in academic excellence. He later joined SAS Institute as an Education Specialist in the Training department, and thereafter as a Senior Associate in professional Consulting services. An academic paper he has co-authored was nominated for the Best Paper Award in the 20th International Conference on Computers in Education (2012). He is currently a founding member of AnaVantage Management Consultancy LLP, and lectures and trains in Tertiary Institutions in Singapore in the area of business statistics, data mining and analytics, and develops analytics courses for undergraduate programmes in Singapore. Professionally recognized by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), he is also an IBM Business Analytics Certified Specialist in IBM SPSS Modeler (Professional) and IBM SPSS Statistics, as well as SAS Certified Predictive Modeler using SAS Enterprise Miner and SAS Certified Business Analyst using SAS 9: Regression and Modeling. Professionally as a Trainer, Jinsheng possessed an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) conferred by the Workforce Development Agency of Singapore (WDA) and a proud recipient of the prestigious “Excellence in Teaching” Award (EIT) conferred by the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) during the Annual Excellence in Teaching and Training Convention 2015. He is also conferred the title of an Associate Adult Educator by the Institute of Adult Learning (IAL) in 2016, an Adult Educators’ Professionalisation recognition which awards pedagogical and professional excellence.
Joan Gan
Joan Gan (Dr) holds doctoral degree and a Master of Management Research degree from the University of Western Australia, MBA from the University of Strathclyde, Bachelor degree from National University of Singapore, and a Certificate of Beijing Chinese Proficiency Test (Advanced Level). Her experience in research and analytics through the use of advanced multivariate analytical techniques has provided valuable customer insights to organisations. Dr Gan also conducts public workshops and in-company training to share her thoughts and experiences with executives in both private and public sectors. Some of her training topics include ‘Customer Surveys: Designing and Obtaining Useful Information’, ‘The Customer Feedback Framework’, ‘Customer Research through Surveys and Analytics’, ‘Crafting Surveys’, and ‘Making Sense of Data’. Her proficiency in Chinese Language has provided valuable inputs for projects in Chinese speaking countries. She had also taught in tertiary institutions in Singapore and NTU Nanyang Business School.
Derrick Yuen
Derrick Yuen is Principal Consultant and Co-Founder of FYT Consulting. He has more than 12 years of analytics and consulting experience with top management consulting firms and multinational corporations across various functions (finance, operations and HR) and industries (FMCG, Aviation and Pharmaceutical) in both the private and public sectors. He has experience in designing, building and delivering sustainable analytics programs and solutions, ranging from Fortune 500 companies (70 countries and 90,000 employees) to local statutory boards (>2,000 employees). Derrick has an MBA from the University of Southern California and holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the National University of Singapore.
Amrita Philips Anand
Amrita is a Chartered Accountant/CPA from India and also holds a Master in Business Administration (with Distinction) degree from the Asian Institute of Management, Philippines. She was also an exchange student at the Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth, New Hampshire, USA. Amrita joined the Capital Projects & Infrastructure team at PwC Singapore in 2006 where she worked on valuation assignments, project finance transactions, and reviewed and analysed complex financial models for infrastructure projects in Singapore, South East Asia and the Middle East. She was also part of the project team that advised the Singapore Government on the Sports Hub PPP Project and ITE College West Project, and is experienced in advising both public and private enterprise in the Asia Pacific region. Her experience has made her proficient in financial models that deal with financial projections for corporate valuation and project finance feasibility, including testing based on sensitivities and scenario analyses. She is well-versed in the principles of data analytics and visualization and regularly uses these in her financial modelling and reviews. Training, facilitation and presentation are an integral part of her role whether she is dealing with senior management or junior level staff and has conducted both in-house training and external presentations to impart her knowledge and experience, not only in Singapore but also in India and ASEAN.?- 19 May (09:00 - 13:00)
