Who Should Attend:
You are a newly-appointed manager*, within your first 2 years of assuming a supervisory role in the Public Service.
Depending on your agency, as a new manager, you may be a grade MX12 to 11 officer, or their equivalent, holding the designation of Team Leader, Assistant Manager, Manager, or Assistant Director.
You should not attend this programme, if you:
• do not have any formal Reporting Officer duties, and/or
• have attended the First Time Managers' Programme (FTMP) or the Manager LEAD (MLEAD) programme.
Programme Overview
One of the major transitions you will experience as a new manager is moving from being an individual contributor to someone who delivers by working with and through others. This requires you to reframe how you see your role in creating and adding value, and pick up new skills.
You may find yourself asking these questions:
- How has my role changed, and what do I need to pay attention to?
- How do I motivate, engage, and develop the people I lead?
- How do I manage and communicate effectively with my supervisor and staff?
Designed to support new managers, the LTLP will help you appreciate the requirements and context of your new role, and grow your capabilities to lead and learn more effectively.
Learning Outcomes
- Gain
clarity on your strengths and developmental needs, and recognise your
impact on others
- Expand your repertoire of styles
and behaviours to lead others
- Develop the mind-set, skills, and
behaviours to support your role as a new manager
- Develop an action plan that will
guide your leadership development and continuous learning
- Recognise the factors that shape
your operating environment and how they might influence your work
- Gain clarity on how you can align
yourself and your staff/team to our Public Service values and mission

The LTLP is a 5-week learning experience. The first check-in (3 days) is held in-person, and the second check-in (3 days) will have a Virtual Learning Day and two in-person days.
Between check-ins, you will have the opportunity to practise what you have learnt back at work, before returning to the programme to unpack your experience. You will earn a total of 48 training hours by the end of the programme.
What past participants said about LTLP:
"The sharing of issues we face in our respective workplaces allowed us to
reliase that most of the issues we faced (as new managers) are similiar, and we
learned from each other."
"I
have learnt a lot of frameworks and theories from this programme that are useful
in my leadership journey"
"The
programme was well designed to have check-in sessions with spaces in between

space and perseonalised learning."
"Enjoyable
and rich learning experience, which allowed for check-ins and time away from
work to reflect on my role as a manager."
"The
course inspired me to want to learn more to become a better manager."
