Programme Overview
How can games help us navigate complex problems?
We create models to help us predict possible futures and plan for hypothetical
future scenarios. These models range from contingency plans to software climate
simulations.
Games are a kind of model. Contained within every game is a model of the system
it’s about. By learning to construct games, we can learn to create better
models of the systems around us, and to better plan for and predict possible
future scenarios.
In this 1-day workshop, we’ll look at some of the key principles of game design
and interactivity, and how these principles can be applied to evolving issues
such as climate change, degrowth and emerging digital divides.

- Apply techniques for adapting a systems map into a playable game
